22-Aug-2013 ~ NASDAQ Flash Freeze

On August 22, 2013 NASDAQ closed all trading on their tape C, due to an issue disemminating quotes to the SIP. Here are some images showing what happend in AAPL during that time period.

Page will be updated as we learn more.

Upon further investigation, we show high bursts of quotes on the CE-FDZZZ, LL-PBZZZ, SQ-ZZZZZZ channels right before NASDAQ stopped quoting near 12:04. The red indicates 5000 or more quotes per second.

At around 14:07, hundreds of thousands of halt notifications came streaming through. Whoops only a couple hours late to the party.

It looks like a fairly smooth re-open traffic wise, with only one quote stuffing candidate showing up on our montitors. SBNY... 5000 orders/sec with no trades. #HFT

Except for the fact that there were some major crosses in securities like AAPL. Not

You can see that the Ask from PACF (NYSE Arca) was stuck below the Bids from the other exchanges.
